On Water Day held as part of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Mongolia’s “Water Ambassador” Golomt Bank and UNICEF Mongolia officially announced a partnership to collaborate on the protection of water resources and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

As the first phase of the partnership, the Dambadarjaa Spring rehabilitation and protection project in Ulaanbaatar was being implemented, with the first phase of landscaping works presented at the Blue Zone Pavilion. The Dambadarjaa Spring project is being implemented as part of the “333 Lakes” initiative, launched by the President of Mongolia to protect and restore water resources. The initiative will include measures to capture and store rainwater, protect the sources of springs and streams, restore natural lakes, and construct retention ponds.

Water is not only the foundation of ecosystem balance, the health and safety of communities, and sustainable economic development, but also a critical strategic resource for combating desertification, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and strengthening ecosystem resilience. This partnership demonstrates how COP17 commitments can be translated into concrete action and investment, through collaboration among the public sector, international organizations and the private sector.

As Mongolia’s “Water Ambassador”, Golomt Bank is contributing to the protection of the country’s water resources through its social responsibility initiatives. The Bank has financed and officially inaugurated the “Bumbat Reservoir Project” and has also taken a leading role in developing the “Blue Bond Guidelines”. We will continue to expand our partnership in the areas of protecting, conserving, and restoring water resources, ensuring ecosystem sustainability, and promoting sustainable development.
