Golomt Bank, recognized as Mongolia’s “Water Ambassador,” has officially inaugurated the Bumbat Water Reservoir Project on 18 August 2026, which was funded through the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility program.
The project was developed to help protect water resources, increase surface water storage capacity, reduce flood risks, and create a green public space for local communities. As climate change and environmental pressures continue to affect water resources, initiatives such as the Bumbat Water Reservoir play an important role in supporting long-term environmental sustainability and improving urban resilience.
Located in the 24th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan District, the project includes a 16,900-cubic-meter water reservoir that collects and stores water from Bumbat Spring and the Baruun Salaa River. The development also features 840 meters of pedestrian walkways, landscaped green areas, lighting, and surveillance cameras, creating a safe and welcoming recreational space for local residents.
The reservoir is expected to contribute to the protection of local water sources, help prevent pollution, and reduce the risk of flooding in the surrounding area. It also supports efforts to improve the environmental quality of Ulaanbaatar while promoting the sustainable use of water resources.

Golomt Bank provided MNT 1.7 billion in funding for the project as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable community development. The Bumbat Water Reservoir Project is one of the Bank’s flagship CSR initiatives focused on water conservation, ecosystem protection, and creating lasting benefits for local communities.
Mr. Z. Batbayar, Head of the Water Agency of Mongolia, remarked during the opening ceremony:
The Bumbat Water Reservoir project forms part of the comprehensive initiative launched by the President of Mongolia, H.E. Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, to protect the source of the Bumbat Spring. By supporting and financing this project, Golomt Bank has made a valuable contribution to water resource conservation and environmental restoration. Through the protection and enhancement of the spring source, together with the development of the reservoir, pedestrian walkways, recreational facilities, and bridges, the project has become a model for sustainable water management and community-focused environmental development. We hope that this initiative will inspire more companies to participate in protecting and restoring Mongolia’s water resources, creating lasting benefits through partnership and collective action.
The project was commissioned by the Songinokhairkhan District Governor’s Office, coordinated by the Water Agency of Mongolia, and implemented by Prestige Engineering LLC through a collaborative effort among public and private sector stakeholders.
